Windows XP Vs Windows 7?
To tell you the truth, I was scarred after using Vista. The boot times were soooo slow, I'm like. 'eff, gotta get XP back >_<;!' and well, ever since, I've been very skeptical about Windows 7.
To those that have used Windows 7, please give your input, I'll probably switch in a year or two and of course, keep my XP install disk just in case ^^
Anyway, yeah... Things I've heard about Windows 7:
Much faster than Vista, compatibility issues fixed, and many other good things. However, a few months ago, I heard of a fatal bug where someone could actually take control of your computer.
Anyway, that's all I got. I probably won't switch for a while anyway, but it's good to know about these things.

Well... I've never had my computer taken control of. 0_0
Anyway, the compatability issues are definitely fixed. I can run FF7PC on here, without a patch. In XP you needed the XP Patch because FF7 is made for Win95. However, in 7, if you just put compatability mode on it, set to Win95, it works perfectly.
Another plus point is that its both 32bit and 64bit, whilst Vista was only 64bit. That means it'll run smoother on computers, and as you mentioned, boot up faster.
Thirdly, as I said in the brief discussion earlier, it actually seems more stable than XP. In XP a lot of things crashed for me, such as my emulators when I was trying to record the footage. No such thing has happened to me in 7. Same with photoshop. I find that 7 is able to handle the resource consuming monster that it is better than XP.
I'll post more when I'm awake. Only been up for like half an hour. xD

Haha, in contrast to you, I'm going to shower and sleep. But thanks for the info, Windows 7 actually does sound pretty good... But...
Mac OSX > Windows in general. LOL. Ahh if only my mac was one of those newer ones with the Nvidia GFX cards Lol, Anyway...
That's good, cause yeah... Windows XP has crashed while playing L2, like billions of times, while photoshopping (once, but I get a lot of lag on Photoshop every now and then) I'll give Windows 7 a go sometime.
Mac > Linux > Windows~~
I probably won't see your next post until tomorrow, ah well x-x

I've been testing the Release Candidate, and I do like it.
Some things are easier to do in XP, others are easier to do in 7, it's just a matter of learning the changes.
Other than a few issues I've had with some programs (there's a program I used to use to help get rid of viruses over the network, which does not work at all with 7, even in compatibility mode) Windows 7 has been excellent. It still looks a lot like Vista, but the annoying sidebar is gone, the prompts for confirmation about running programs have been improved to not ask for EVERYTHING, just things that make serious changes to your computer, 7 is a LOT more compatible than Vista, and many other things.
Windows 7 doesn't actually get released for another few months, so I'm assuming that, in the time that the huge bug was found and now, they've fixed it for the final release. The latest version of 7 that's out right now is the Release Candidate, which is like their final test after the Beta. I highly recommend looking into Windows 7, and disagree with your OS hierarchy. (it's just a matter of preference )

We've been testing the Release Candidate for a few months here at work, and I've been testing at home since the Beta was released in January. I'm very pleased with it at this point - it runs well on older/less powerful hardware (I run it on my netbook), and its pretty good about compatibility issues.
Like Vista, 7 offers both 32-bit and 64-bit options, but if you can, go for the 64-bit. It offers much better support going forward for large volumes of RAM. The older-OS compatibility modes are great, and if you buy the Pro or better versions of 7 you can use XP mode, which is basically XP -inside-your-7. There's some other requirements, and it won't be needed for most people, but it's nice to have regardless.
I didn't have a lot of good to say about Vista, but I recommend 7 strongly and with no reservations.

Now that I game less, that's become the hierarchy. Macs (the newer ones to the very least >_<) are GREAT for photoshop as well as other graphics stuff, they're lightweight and great for school, and awesome.
I'm into computer science, specifically the programming part of it, and well Linux OS is a very stable host. I find that Windows OSes crash/ freeze/ Blue Screen Of Death way too much X_X
But who knows I may change opinion after trying seven.
The crashes aren't because of hardware by the way...
Good Mobo, 2.40 Quad Core, 4gb ram, and NVIDIA 8800GTX >_<
I don't know why it'd suddenly lag while I photoshop or crash/freeze when I play a game.

it shouldn't, at least, not with those specs. it might be a driver issue, or something like that. Regardless, I haven't had much exposure to Linux, and prefer hardware to software, and don't do a lot of photo editing, hence my hierarchy is a bit different.

That's true~~ But both hardware and software are important. Crap software is still crap software even on the best hardware and vice versa.
Still waiting for Even's "I'll post more when I'm more awake" but meh Windows 7 seems pretty good sofar. Lol

Sorry for taking a while to post again Yoshi. xD Busy day yesturday. (Preparing for a medical examination and to move. xD)
Anyway, I think another big attraction to 7 is the little extras. For example, you can click on the title bar of a program (like Internet Explorer or Firefox) and then move it to the left, right or top of the screen and it'll change size to either fill the screen or take up half of it.
Using this with Windows Explorer makes file managed considerably easier.
Then there's the search, which I've found to often be more successful and coherent than XP. For example, searching "Bob" woould bring up bob.txt, but not 1249uvrzgbobswgr.ini or whatever. To get the second you'd need to search "*bob*". Makes it easier to find what you need. ^__^

Lol, don't take my comment as me rushing you x_x;; That's not what I meant. Just meant that i wanted to hear what else you had to say.
Medical Examination and to move eh? Moving like... to a new place? I'm moving too! o_o, Coincidence? Or 'Hitsuzen' Lol been reading a lot of Tsubasa Chronicle lately (I wanted to catch up, haha)
Anyway... Mmm that sounds interesting, I... guess o_o I don't quite get what the whole drag a window thing is, I sorta have an idea, but it seems pointless. But the search thing sounds nice. We all know searching definitely needed a revamp >_<
